“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
—Audrey Hepburn

Hello Friend,

It feels so great to be writing to you again. How are you? Have I missed much? Wait, don’t answer that. I already know the answer.

I’ve missed SO much. Yeah, I kind of figured. Time has a way of doing that...

Nevertheless, I’m happy to be back and can’t wait to share my Monthly Garden with you again. I hope you’ll be patient with me as I get back into the swing of things. This is more of a quick hello than a full blown newsletter. (Imagine me waving my hand wildly in the air and yelling, Hi! Remember me??)

In the coming months I’ll have more news to share in my New Plantings section and I hope you’ll understand my excitement as I embark on many new adventures both with my writing and life in general!

I also plan on including a My Acorns essay in each issue as well. Acorns are full of possibilities, right? So is life. At least that’s what I believe. And that’s what my monthly thoughts will be full of too. I hope they’ll touch you in some way, and if so, please let me know. I want to hear from you.

Just Believe,

My Acorns

I am who I choose to be?

The world is a big place.

It’s filled with people who feel things like love, hate, anger, boredom, excitement, fear, sadness and joy. It’s filled with attitudes and actions that have repercussion affecting us all. We are all truly part of a test tube mix that flows and stops and expands and contracts as it continues to blend.

Yet how we materialize within that compound is not truly defined or predestined by the mixture.

Sometimes it doesn’t seem that way. Sometimes it’s as if our life is out of our control and ultimately dictated by the people and events we encounter in everyday living. And many people move forward on that premise as an absolute.

They feel that they are the mixture.

I don’t agree with this.

It’s taken time and learning experiences to help me slowly real-ize that who I am and how I live my life is truly up to me. Things happen that will affect me as well as my life. That goes without saying. But what I chose to do from that point forward is abso-lutely and without question up to me.

Even the most nightmarish of circumstance, while leaving a mark on us, does not have to define and confine our existence. That is a cage of our own making, a ball and chain we choose to drag around behind us no matter how exhausting it is or how much it actually eats away at our life. And doing that does not and will not lead to happiness.

You are who you choose to me.
